What is color?
- Color is an aspect of visual perception dependent on the spectral comparison of observed radiant energy.
- Modern concept of color was founded in 1704 by Isaac Newton. Newton was separated white day light into a sequence of colored light called ‗spectrum‘.
Color or colour is the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories called red, blue, yellow, green and others.
Colour Temperature:
The color temperature of a light source is the temperature of an ideal black body radiator that radiates light of comparable hue to that of the light source. In practice, color temperature is only meaningful for light sources that do in fact correspond somewhat closely to the radiation of some black body, i.e. those on a line from reddish/orange via yellow and more or less white as the temperature is increased.
Colour Rendering Index (CRI):
It is the numerical system that measures how will colours be rendered by a lamp incomparison to reference light source. The CRI is measured on an index ranging 0-100, where
100 represents an exact match whilst low value indicate poor rendering. This rating method
is recognised by the illuminating Engineering Society (IES).
VT= Volume of the maximum colour solid under test SPD,
VR= Volume of the maximum colour solid under reference SPD,
VC = Volume of common part.
[N.B. CRI deals with illuminant and Metamerism deals with samples]
