Pre-determined motion–time system (PMTS)

Pre-determined motion–time system (PMTS) : PMTS is a predefined motion-time system (PMTS). It was specifically designed for the garment industry, its primary function being to rationalize the production process and make an accurate assessment of the time required to perform a particular task or function. The PMTS system is specially designed for the sewing industry. It is a method study technique that identifies specific handling and swing components, each of which has a predetermined time, by combining each of these components and adding the necessary allowances one is able to establish an ideal time for the operation. The standard times thus established are equally fair and form the basis upon which the following can be achieved. • Establish best practices for conducting operations • Performance measurement of all operators; This should include helpers and all termination operations • Capacity planning and factory loading • Line balancing • Production targets • Incentive payment system • Operator training (through standardized procedures) PMTS should be implemented in proper manner. Training is a key factor in success and should include all levels of staff from the shop floor to the boardroom requiring commitment from all levels within the business. PMTS produces standard times that are equally fair across production environments. The jobs or work procedures performed or used by each are broken down into action elements as required to predetermine a time expenditure based on the characteristics and conditions of the action elements. This is commonly called the "predetermined time value" method. Method time measurement (MTM) and work factor (WF) methods are also known.

Pre-determined motion–time system (PMTS) :

PMTS is a predefined motion-time system (PMTS).

• Establish best practices for conducting operations

• Performance measurement of all operators; This should include helpers and all termination operations

• Capacity planning and factory loading

• Line balancing

• Production targets

• Incentive payment system

• Operator training (through standardized procedures)

PMTS should be implemented in proper manner.
